Director
As a director, I'm interested in exploring how the personal is political and the individual is universal. I strive to create theater that can startle both audiences and actors into opening themselves up in ways they didn’t think possible. I look for plays that bend or break our idea of what our world, or any world, can look and feel like. I want to strip down barriers between genres, between disciplines, and between performers and audience.
Much of my directing work has been self produced; as founding artistic director of the Carriage House Theatre of Ann Arbor; as founding artistic director of The Vagari Project, a commedia dell'arte-based street theater troupe; and as co-founder of the leastaways, an ensemble touring troupe performing in living rooms. My directing has also been seen at Ellipsis Theatre (Ann Arbor, MI), Community Ensemble Theatre (Ann Arbor, MI), and at Hampshire College, where I earned a BA in directing. I am also a graduate of the National Theatre Institute's Advanced Directing Semester.
